Kan. Board of Regents changes science requirement, affects some in Class of 2012

The Kansas Board of Regents decision to no longer accept Freshman General Science course as one of the three science credits to get into a Regents College (Wichita State University, Pittsburg State University, Emporia State University, Washburn University, Kansas State University, University of Kansas, and Fort Hays University) will affect incoming college freshman in the 2012-2013 school year.

“Regents universities have an exception window so students have to apply early. It’s very important that students have a plan and they apply to college early,” Diane Close, counseling, said.

While students who are planning to attend one of the Regents universities might want to add a science course to their schedule, this doesn’t apply to every senior.

“Only students who know they’re going to four year Regents university and don’t have a 21 on ACT need to be talking to me,” Close said.
