Kerry Graber, ’11 South grad, took first place at the State track meet located at Wichita State University on May 27and 28 after jumping 6’8’ in the high jump competition.
Seven other South athletes participated in the meet, though Graber won the 4A High Jump and officials awarded Graber with the championship medal.
“My greatest achievement in my track season was becoming state champion,” Graber said.
While Graber clenched gold for his 6’8” jump, that was not Graber’s personal best.
“I won over my closest competitor by two inches. However, my best jump I have done was the week before at regionals where I jumped 6’ 9’,” Graber said.
With great achievements come great opportunities, and for Graber being a track star is no different. His track skills landed Graber a scholarship to a local university.
“I am going to college at Wichita State University with an 80% scholarship for track,” Graber said. He has yet to declare a major.
